USAID Investing in Digital Literacy of Pupils and Teachers

Contest for Best Digital Education Solution

In the aim of creating digital educational content to contribute to increasing digital literacy of primary and secondary school pupils in Serbia, the Institute for Improvement of Education (ZUOV), Institute for Education Quality and Evaluation (ZVKOV), Propulsion and ‘Digital Serbia’ Initiative are organising a contest for pupils titled Digital Expedition Challenge 2021, with a total prize pool of one million dinars.

The Challenge is called within the Initiative for New Media and Digital Literacy (New Literacy), in a partnership with US Agency for International Development USAID.

School teams are tasked to define a project for creating a digital open educational resource. It may be a website, text, video, video game, mobile app or some other resource that can be used as auxiliary educational material for pupils and the general public. Primary and secondary school teams with three to five pupils as members and one or two teachers as mentors are eligible to apply for the contest, open until May 10, by filling in an application form at https://zuov.gov.rs/digitalna-ekspedicija/.

– This contest is being organised in Serbia for the first time, and therefore the Digital Expedition is our joint journey, where we acquire new knowledge and learn about the landscape shaped by digital transformation of the world we live in and the 4th Industrial Revolution, said Darko Soković, the New Literacy Program Director. He adds that the aim of the Digital Expedition is to support and reward the best idea that will contribute to general digital literacy.

After a public announcement of a selection jury’s decision, school teams will have six weeks to execute their project ideas. In addition to financial support, the Digital Expedition team will also assist the winning teams through consultations and mentorship of experts in this area.

The New Literacy Program works with the public, media, companies, educational system, influencers and public administration in order to establish the best practices of media, IT and digital literacy as the foundations of a modern Serbian society.
