Emirati Women’s Day

On the occasion of Emirati Women’s Day, celebrated on the 28th of August, I would like to share my respect and admiration for all Emirati women and the great achievements they have made for our nation and our country.

Since its foundation as a union, the United Arab Emirates has recognized that education is key to the economic empowerment of women. From an early age, women are inspired to explore their unique talents and academic pursuits. In such an encouraging environment, our mothers, wives and daughters became top-quality pilots, engineers, doctors, scientists…

Looking back at just a couple of recent years, Emirati women helped the Hope Probe and the Emirati flag to reach Mars orbit. During the current coronavirus pandemic, they have led revolutionary research into Covid 19 virus prevention and treatment, saving so many lives and accelerating the global recovery. As a part of engineering teams, they have also worked to solve the most pressing energy challenges while urgently seeking to address the impact of climate change.

Since its foundation as a union, the United Arab Emirates has recognized that education is key to the economic empowerment of women.

Today, over 77% of Emirati women enrol in university education after secondary school. Notably, 60% of university graduates in the Emirates are women. They hold 30% of leadership roles in the public sector, 25% of cabinet-level minister roles, and 20% of UAE’s diplomatic corps.

Even though women’s influence on our society is immeasurable, I consider this day a great opportunity to remind us of the incredible achievements of Emirati women that brought our country to where it stands today. This is also an opportunity to identify ways to work with international partners to ensure sustainable development for women globally. The UAE Embassy in Belgrade supports all initiatives for women and young leaders’ empowerment in Serbia and looks forward to our joint projects in this area.
