New studio and visual identity of Serbian Broadcasting Corporation’s central news – The biggest video wall in the Balkans and robot-cameras

As of tonight, the Serbian Broadcasting Corporation will air its central news (Dnevnik 2), the most-watched TV programme in Serbia, from a new studio with the help of the latest technology. Thus, the public broadcaster now stands shoulder-to-shoulder with the European and global TV stations in terms of quality programming.

The new studio is equipped with the latest technology and designed to meet all the requirements of modern news programmes. The opening sequence of Dnevnik, accompanied by recognizable music, now has an updated look. Some segments of the old design are still there which were created by the renowned Nebojša Čonkić in the late 1970s – namely, the dotted globe and the dotted letters of the word ‘Dnevnik’. The music that accompanies the revamped Dnevnik was composed by Zoran Simjanović and it has a new, modern arrangement,” says Boris Miljković, Creative Director of the Serbian Broadcasting Corporation (RTS). Set designer Jasna Dragović was in charge of the innovative and modern look of the studio.

Studio 10 will have the largest multi-purpose video wall in the Balkans – where other informative programs such as Oko Magazin, Ovo je Srbija, Kulturni Dnevnik, etc, will be recorded too. “After ten years of working on television, it seems that I also started to notice the form and not just the essence, so I think it is extremely important that the show Oko will air from Studio 10, where I hope we will have the quality worthy of any global TV station,” says Gorislav Papić, editor of the show Oko. The challenge here is for the audience to get used to innovation while maintaining the top-notch quality of content which is imperative for any public broadcaster.

No change in a complex system such as television is easy, but we need them, considering that our goal is to give viewers the top-quality content while following the development of technology,” says Mirjana Brajković, editor of Kulturni Dnevnik (culture news). “With our colleagues from the news desk, we have the privilege to work in a new studio, to turn around a new leaf, to be faster and better and to really use every capacity that the new studio has,” pointed out Snežana Stamenković Jojić, editor and host of Kulturni Dnevnik.

The studio was built according to the best global standards of television news, and the new technology will be used for a better presentation of content. Our viewers will also see the largest video wall in the Balkans, with impressive dimensions – 18.5×2.5 metres, that will be lit by the latest generation LED spotlights. We have also implemented the latest augmented reality graphics solutions. We will film our news anchors with robotic cameras that will be remotely operated by video direction unit,” says Zoran Vasić, head of the Technical Service Operations.

A creative team of experts – engineers, technicians, set designers and decorators – worked diligently on the project. The challenge was to finish the studio on time despite the pandemic and prepare it for team members who will work on producing daily content. “Our new video wall has more elements and thanks to our robot-cameras, the shots will be both moving and static unlike in the previous version of Dnevnik. The new system allows some things to be simpler, faster and better, but in essence, regardless of the system, people are the ones who make up the system when it comes to putting Dnevnik together. Without a good team, there is no good Dnevnik“, says Miodrag Janićijević, the producer.

With this step towards full automation, the Serbian Broadcasting Corporation follows global technological trends and remains a regional leader in the media market. With this project, the Serbian public broadcaster has risen to the ranks of European and global television stations.
