Concert in Honor of the 200th Birthday of Johann Strauss

In memory of the life and work of the famous Austrian composer, conductor, and violinist Johann Strauss II, who held his very first concert right here in Novi Sad, Color Media Communications is organizing, for the fourth consecutive year, the Johann Strauss Fest—this time in celebration of the great waltz master’s 200th birthday (October 25)

The concert dedicated to the author of the iconic composition The Blue Danube and the “most musical mind of the 19th century” will take place on October 23, 2025, at the Kotek Castle (today the Agricultural School with a student dormitory) in Futog.

Johann Strauss II arrived in Novi Sad at the age of only 22 and carried with him memories from our city that later found their way into some of his most beautiful musical works. According to legend, his most famous composition, The Blue Danube, was written in 1867 when—two decades after his first visit to Novi Sad—he stayed at the estates of Count Kotek in Futog and Sremska Kamenica.

It is believed that the notes were composed in Futog itself, as Strauss gazed at the Danube and the Srem riverbank. After his stay in Novi Sad, Strauss continued his tour through Romania, Russia, and America, once again affirming his worldwide renown.
