80th Anniversary of the United Nations Marked

The United Nations Day and the 80th anniversary of the organization were ceremoniously celebrated at the Museum of Yugoslavia

It was emphasized that the partnership between Serbia and the UN is based on trust, shared priorities, and tangible results that improve people’s quality of life.

“Even after 80 years, the United Nations remains proof that global cooperation can bring real progress when it is built on partnership and a common goal,” said Matilda Mort, UN Resident Coordinator in Serbia.

Dominika Krois, Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General and Head of the UN Office in Belgrade, highlighted Serbia’s contribution to international peace and the importance of multilateral cooperation.

“Serbia is a committed participant in United Nations peacekeeping operations, reflecting its strong support for multilateralism and its belief in the UN’s role as the cornerstone of global peace and stability,” Krois emphasized.

Katarina Lalić Smajević, Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs, who addressed the gathering on behalf of the Government of the Republic of Serbia, reaffirmed Serbia’s commitment to active engagement within the UN system and dedication to multilateralism.

The reception was attended by Ministers without Portfolio in the Government of Serbia, Tatjana Macura and Ivica Tončev, as well as numerous members of the diplomatic corps in Belgrade, UN partners, and representatives of civil society.

Guests had the opportunity to visit the photo exhibition “From Global Goals to Local Lives”, which showcases stories of people and communities across Serbia — from young innovators and women entrepreneurs to Roma health mediators and local officials improving public services with the support of the United Nations.

The publication “UN at Country Level: A Practical Guide to the Operational System of the United Nations”, published by the Swiss State Secretariat for Foreign Affairs, was presented, along with a panel discussion titled “From Global Goals to Local Lives in Serbia.”
