Exhibition on Petar Lubarda Opens at the Madlena Art Palace

The exhibition “Spark in Stone – Visions of Petar Lubarda” was solemnly opened last night at the Madlena Art Palace

The event was officially inaugurated by the Montenegrin Minister in Serbia, Nebojša Oković, who emphasized the importance of Lubarda’s artistic work for the cultural heritage of the region.

The opening of the exhibition represents a tribute to one of the most powerful painting voices of the 20th century and an opportunity for the audience to once again engage with Lubarda’s striking visual language, vibrant color palette, and distinctive expression.

Petar Lubarda, one of the most significant Yugoslav and Serbian painters of the past century, left a profound mark on the art scene. He was a true modernist who had the courage to reject the norms of Socialist Realism at a time when they were dominant, introducing a radically new approach to color, form, and composition. His works are recognizable for their intense energy, dramatic brushstrokes, and strong expression, while Montenegro — with its landscapes and myths served as his endless source of inspiration.

The exhibition at the Madlena Art Palace allows visitors to closely explore the evolution of Lubarda’s style and to fully appreciate the scope of his artistic legacy.
