This island nation, located between Europe and Africa, has preserved its unique story for centuries. And that story begins in its capital – the magnificent Valletta. Valletta is more than just a capital city. It is an open-air museum, a city of knights, a city-stage. Built in the 16th century by the famous Order of Malta, Valletta is today a UNESCO World Heritage Site and rightfully recognized as one of the most beautiful and authentic capitals of Europe.

As you stroll through its narrow stone streets, every façade, balcony, and square carries traces of a rich past. The city’s main attraction is St. John’s Cathedral, designed by architect Girolamo Cassar. It was built between 1573 and 1578 and soon became the place where the Knights of Malta gathered for liturgies and similar rituals. The cathedral’s interior was renovated in the 17th century and since then exudes Baroque style. One of the greatest treasures housed in the cathedral is a painting of John the Baptist, a work by Caravaggio. Particularly interesting is the entire marble floor composed of tombstones – there are more than 400 graves of Maltese knights, each uniquely decorated.

The National Archaeological Museum of Malta houses many artifacts from distant history and is among the special attractions of Valletta. The building was constructed in the Baroque style in 1571, and the museum is another reason why Valletta is called the city of Baroque. Some of the exhibits include stone artifacts dating back to 5200 BC. Beautiful prehistoric figures attract the attention of everyone who decides to visit this landmark in Valletta, the most famous being the “Sleeping Lady,” about 5,000 years old. In addition, the National Archaeological Museum showcases many other fascinating historical items that leave no visitor indifferent.

The Upper and Lower Barrakka Gardens offer the most beautiful view of the Grand Harbor. At 12 and 4 PM, cannons are fired, signaling the exact time. This impressive ceremony is a tourist attraction that draws great attention. But Malta is not only for history lovers. It is a paradise for those who want to combine culture and relaxation. Crystal-clear sea, over 300 sunny days a year, and charming places like Mdina, Sliema, and Marsaxlokk make this island perfect for relaxation, diving, exploring, or simply enjoying.

For food lovers, Malta offers a true blend of cultures – Arabian spices, Italian pasta, British influences, and local specialties. Try pastizzi – puff pastries filled with various fillings, or fresh fish paired with a glass of Maltese wine. And what gives Malta its soul – are its people. Open, warm, and hospitable, they will make you feel at home. In Valletta, every morning begins with the sound of church bells and ends with a smile, street musicians’ music, and an unforgettable sunset.

Malta is a destination you must experience, a place that connects past and present, energy and sea. AndValletta… Valletta is the heart of that island.

Come, discover, and fall in love.
