Romania Celebrated Its National Day

With a formal diplomatic reception at the White Palace in Belgrade, within the royal complex in Dedinje, the Embassy of Romania in Serbia marked its national holiday, the Day of Unification

The Romanian Ambassador to Serbia, H.E. Silvia Davidoiu, in her welcoming speech, emphasized that her country is today a respected and esteemed member of the EU and NATO, proudly standing within the democratic, liberal, transatlantic community.

Ambassador Davidoiu particularly highlighted the importance of strong bilateral relations between Romania and Serbia, recalling 145 years of diplomatic ties.
“Our relations naturally grow, regardless of political overtones or circumstances in the two countries, based on mutual respect and traditional friendship,” Davidoiu stressed.

The reception was attended by a large number of guests from the public and cultural life of the country, including representatives of political authorities, Crown Prince Alexander Karađorđević with his wife, Prince Heir Filip Karađorđević with his wife, numerous representatives of the Romanian minority in Serbia, foreign diplomatic representatives, high-ranking clergy, military attachés, and others.

The holiday is celebrated in remembrance of December 1, 1918, when, following the end of the First World War, the unification of the Kingdom of Romania with Transylvania, along with the annexation of Bukovina and Bessarabia, fulfilled the dream of a single state inhabited by nearly all Romanians.
