The 3rd International Museum Theatre Festival Muzetea will take place from November 3 to 5, 2025, across several museum venues: the Gallery of Matica Srpska, Princess Ljubica’s Residence, House of Jevrem Grujić, and the Museum of Science and Technology

The founder of the festival is Vjera Mujović, actress of the National Theatre and Secretary of the IMF-ITI UNESCO. The festival’s Program Director is Nina Mazur, a dramaturge and theatre critic from Hanover. This year’s edition of the MUZETEA Festival will be officially opened by Dr. Tijana Palkovljević, Director of the Gallery of Matica Srpska in Novi Sad.
Muzetea is a museum theatre festival that was first held in November 2023 and was immediately included on the list of members of the International Monodrama Forum (IMF) within UNESCO’s International Theatre Institute (ITI). The festival has been recognized as a platform for cultural exchange and the promotion of museum activities through theatre, fostering collaboration between museum and theatre professionals. By connecting different artistic expressions, Muzetea also bridges cultures and builds bonds among those who share common values.

Its mission is to breathe new life into cultural heritage stored in museum collections through theatrical energy. The festival also serves as a tool for developing new audiences, placing a strong emphasis on gender equality and the empowerment of women in artistic production. MUZETEA is supported by and cooperates with the Office for Gender Equality.
This year’s festival will host artists from Spain, Sweden, the United States, Germany, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Cyprus, and Croatia, alongside participants from Serbia. In addition to performances, the festival—partnering with the House of Jevrem Grujić and Haemus from North Macedonia, under the patronage of the Headley Foundation—will organize a two-day professional workshop dedicated to the application of theatrical techniques in modern museum practice and museum tours. The goal of this project is to enhance museum practices through creative approaches and bring cultural heritage closer to contemporary audiences.

Muzetea is also expanding its reach through MUZETEA ADRIATIC in Montenegro, in collaboration with ART365, where a review program of the festival’s third edition will be presented after the event in Serbia.
The jury selecting the best play and best performance includes dramatic artists from Cyprus, Serbia, and Montenegro, as well as museum professionals from Serbia. The panel also includes a student of theatre directing from the Faculty of Dramatic Arts and actor Stevan Piale.
