The Japanese attempted to break the Serbian Guinness World Record from February 2023 yesterday in Tokyo, but did not succeed
Only 150 people with the same first and last name, Hirokazu Tanaka, gathered for the event. The gathering was organized in cooperation with the Embassy of Serbia in Tokyo, and part of the program included a performance by a Serbian cultural troupe showcasing traditional dances.
Robert Čoban, director of the Color Media company that organized the 2023 record-setting event, addressed them via video message. That event brought together 256 women and girls named Milica Jovanović in one place — the BIG Fashion Shopping Center in Belgrade, setting a new Guinness World Record.
“This is yet another proof that when we in Serbia come together — even though there are exactly 20 times fewer of us than there are Japanese (6 million versus 120 million) — we can still come out ‘stronger.’ Incidentally, they had previously broken the Guinness record on October 31, 2022, with 178 people named Hirokazu Tanaka.
It took us only three months — from the idea and preparations to finding sponsors and execution — to gather 256 Milica Jovanović and set a world record that still stands! It was actually easier for them in Japan since children were allowed to participate, whereas we, due to sponsors from the alcoholic beverage and betting sectors, invited only adult Milica Jovanović,” said Robert Čoban.
