The piece they are bringing is choreographed by the popular Spanish choreographer Marcos Morau. It is a work dedicated to Morricone, incorporating the film music of the legendary composer.

“Morricone’s music gave sound to things left unspoken, to hidden elements. Separating his music from the films is a complex and nearly suicidal task, but I believe the genius would be happy to know that his notes can travel from an old cinema and live on stage for a few hours,” says Marcos Morau.

Aterballetto is returning to Serbia for the fourth time as part of the Belgrade Dance Festival, where they have easily filled the largest theaters, always met with standing ovations. The troupe from Reggio Emilia is known for consistently bringing together the most intriguing contemporary choreographers, musicians, and visual artists, in order to create memorable works.

Based in Madrid, Manuel Liñán is arguably one of the most prominent artists of the current contemporary flamenco scene. His piece “¡VIVA!” is performed on major European stages as a celebration of freedom, breaking down gender roles within the codified world of this traditional art form—with joy—opening unexplored spaces. A captivating performer of dizzying talent, Liñán is praised for his stage charisma and the honesty with which he breaks the rules. He is coming to Serbia for the first time, bringing his most daring piece to date, in which male dancers perform in traditional female costumes, unrelentingly revealing the many expressions of identity hidden within the human being. In a celebratory tone, the artist presents the plurality of flamenco, precisely through its different forms and their uniqueness.

Machine de Cirque is a circus company based in Quebec, founded in 2013 by six passionate artists. They will perform at the Belgrade Dance Festival for the first time, as part of a major European tour of their latest production, “Kintsugi.”

Canadian critics note that the performance “goes beyond the world of circus and physical feats,” and that it “opens the door to an entirely different universe.”

The 23rd Belgrade Dance Festival will take place from March 13 to April 8, on stages in Belgrade, Novi Sad, and Subotica.
