André Rinnensland, CEO of METRO Cash & Carry Serbia: I am already anticipating what will happen when the crisis is over

We have taken all the necessary and recommended measures to protect our employees, customers and business partners

We strictly adhere to all instructions issued by the Republic of Serbia and adjust our business accordingly monitoring any kind of new changes permanently. Nevertheless, the most important thing for now is to stay safe and healthy and help others do the same, by showing solidarity and perseverance in these challenging times.

Given that many of your employees, due to the nature of your work can’t work from home, what are the measures that you are undertaking? How did you organize the business activities?

METRO Cash & Carry Serbia has taken all the necessary measures recommended by the Serbian state institutions and the World Health Organization to protect our employees, customers and business partners. As health & safety is of utmost importance to us, we have implemented a series of additional measures to create conditions for a safe workplace for our colleagues who, due to the nature of their work, are unable to work from home. In addition, we strictly adhere to all instructions issued by the Republic of Serbia and adjust our business accordingly monitoring any kind of new changes permanently.

How do you spend your free/private time during the pandemic?

Personally, I believe that the safety of us all is the key for all of us and this is why I personally comply with and observe all recommended measures. During curfew times the possibilities are limited but I try to exercise at home and I finally found more time to read some favourite books. Since my mind never rests I am already anticipating what will happen when the crisis is over and how our business models will evolve due to changed customer behaviour. Nevertheless, the most important thing for now is to stay safe and healthy and help others do the same, by showing solidarity and perseverance in these challenging times.

What is the first you will do once the emergency state is over?

I cannot wait to go out again and visit some of our HoReCa customers and have a coffee in the sun, a nice sunset drink and after that go to one of my favourite restaurants to enjoy a great meal.
