Gojkovic with Kazakh officials to strengthen co-operation

Serbian Parliament Speaker Maja Gojković paid an official visit to the Republic of Kazakhstan on November 7 and 8, the first visit of the parliamentary speaker and at the same time the first inter-parliamentary visit in the history of relations between the two countries, and with Kazakh officials discussed strengthening friendships and strengthening cooperation as well as in the fields of economy, trade, agriculture and culture.


Gojković met with the Prime Minister of that country, Bakytzhan Sagintaev and Senate President
Kasim-Zhomart Tokaev, and it was emphasized that the intensive political dialogue, led by the presidents Aleksandar Vučić and Nursultan Nazarbayev, gives great impetus to the new prospects for the development of cooperation between Serbia and Kazakhstan in many areas and that parliamentary cooperation plays an important role in this context.
Gojkovic said that Serbia is committed to joining the EU, and that it is committed to developing cooperation with traditionally friendly countries, such as Kazakhstan, and thanked Kazakhstan for continuing and principled support for respecting the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Serbia, that is, the non-recognition of Kosovo
and Metohija‘s unilaterally declared independence.

The President of the Serbian Parliament pointed out that it is important that special attention be paid to the development of economic cooperation and the increase of trade exchange, which is taking place under the Free Trade Agreement, bearing in mind significant capacities for cooperation that have not been fully exploited, especially in the fields of agriculture , pharmacy, construction, transport, technology and tourism development.

Prime Minister Sagintayev estimated that the platform for the development of economic relations was created, and that there was room for its significant improvement, recalling the important role that the Intergovernmental Commission for Trade and Economic Cooperation has in this process.

Sagintayev assessed that priority should be given to concrete projects in the upcoming period, and in this regard emphasized that the governments of the two countries have an important and meaningful task ahead.

Gojković and Senate President Kasim-Zhomart Tokaev stressed that the visit of the President of the Serbian Parliament is of great importance as the first visit of the Speaker of the Parliament and strongly advocated the development of inter-parliamentary cooperation, in accordance with friendly relations developed by Serbia and Kazakhstan.

Gojkovic and Tokaev emphasized that MPs, as representatives of citizens, have a special obligation to contribute to the development of bilateral relations and to deepen trade-economic cooperation. At the meeting it was emphasized that there is readiness and need for cooperation in other fields, especially in the field of economy, bearing in mind the important reforms that both countries implement, as well as the development of infrastructure and attracting investments and participation in global projects such as “One belt one road“.
Gojković also met with the Deputy Mayor of Kazakhstan, Gulmir Isimbaev, who said that raising a Kazakh poet
Zhambi Zhabaev in Belgrade, as well as the appointment of a street in Astana after Nikola Tesla, is a symbol of Kazakhstan and Serbia’s friendship.
