Afro Festival, 26–27 June 2021

The Afro Festival – MAA’s well-established and most popular annual event will be held in the last weekend of June 2021, on Saturday, 26 June and Sunday, 27 June, from 10 am to 6 pm.

The event will be in compliance with all epidemiological safety measures for protection against COVID-19.

The Afro Festival, first organized in 1997, is one of the MAA’s most important events – unique in our country and the wider region. Over time it has become recognizable for its true cosmopolitan spirit. During the Festival, exhibitions and lectures, concerts, book-talks and promotions, film screenings on the arts and cultures of Africa, music, dance and art workshops for children, as well as public guided tours through museum exhibits. The Festival’s standard programme includes also music performances and the African Bazaar – sales exhibition of items from different parts of Africa like masks, sculptures in stone and wood, painted and dyed fabrics, paintings, batik, jewelry and various decorative items.

Durbar is a special program of the Festival which, with the participation of African embassies in Belgrade, is the highlight of the celebration. Durbar is held on Sunday and includes specially prepared and arranged stands by the African embassies and consulates, which through tourist pamphlets, souvenirs and other types of promotional materials, promote the different African countries participating in the Festival.
