Cooperation between Germany and France – a model for Serbia and the region

On the occasion of marking the 56th anniversary of the signing of the Elysee Agreement, the ambassadors of Germany and France in Serbia, Thomas Schieb and Frederic Mondoloni, organized a reception from which they said that the honest reconciliation and cooperation of the two countries could be a model for Serbia and the region.

Minister of State Administration and Local Self-Government Branko Ružić also addressed the gathering, which talked about the cooperation of the two countries in the field of public administration, who pointed out that today’s day and the Jesse Agreement do not symbolize only the reconciliation of the two countries, but also the spirit of unity and peace in Europe, and that Serbia and the region can learn a lot from this example. German Ambassador Shib says the Elysee Agreement has become a European success story.

“After decades of hatred and animosity, Germany and France have finally learned lessons and decided to work together to make both countries and the whole Europe progress,” Schib said, adding that the centuries-old animosity was transformed into a partnership that later became a friendship.

French Ambassador Frederic Mondoloni said that the historic reconciliation of the two countries was based on strong political will, but also on concrete instruments and institutions, including the Council of Ministers of the two countries, which meets twice, and cooperation in security and foreign affairs, as well as the office for youth cooperation, Tanjug reports.
