SPORTS SPECTACLE IN HONOR OF SERBIAN-PAKISTAN FRIENDSHIP

On the 18th of May we are marking the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Republic of Serbia and the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, since on May 18, 1948, our country recognized the independence of Pakistan among the first countries.

18 May 2018 marks the 70th Anniversary of the Establishment of Diplomatic Relations between Pakistan and Serbia. Both sides established diplomatic relations in 1948, when Pakistan was still in its nascent stages. After withstanding seven decades of test, today the bilateral relations are marked by increasing bilateral trade and exchanges of visit at different level.

To celebrate this event, in a befitting manner, different programs have been planned by the mutual cooperation of both sides, which include Cultural Gala on the sideline of Pakistan Day Reception, training of Serbian Cricket Federation by the Pakistan Cricket Board, exhibition of historic documents related to 70 years of bilateral relations and exhibition of Pakistani products and Mango in Serbia including installation of the Bust of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah in a public place in Belgrade. Pakistan and Serbia have also initiated the re-validation of the Agreements and MOUs signed in these seven decades, which have outlived their useful period.

The bilateral relations are characterized by mutual support on host of issues of international interest as well as cooperation in multilateral forums. Pakistan considers Serbia to be an important country in Western Balkans and wishes it success in its path towards Accession to European Union, which is one of the biggest trading partners of Pakistan.

Regarding the initiative of the Serbia-Pakistan Friendship Society (DSPP), during the celebration of this anniversary, a true sports spectacle is planned to be organized. Five times European and world champion Nenad Stanković, the current vice president of this society and one of the top boxers from Pakistan, will have the opportunity to enter the boxing history of the two countries. The time and venue of this event will be determined subsequently by the representatives of the two parties.

On this occasion, the President of the Society, Vladan Škorić, expressed great satisfaction for the support that this proposal received from the Embassy and H.E. Ambassador Gilani and expressed the conviction that this sport event will be in the function of better acquaintance, further connecting and friendship of the peoples of these two countries.

The press conference will be attended by the host, H.E. Ambassador Sayed Adil Gilani and representatives of the Serbia-Pakistan Friendship Society:  President Vladan Skoric, Vice President Nenad Stankovic and Board Member Mr. Ali Ashgar.

The Serbia-Pakistan Friendship Society was established at the end of last year with the aim of better presenting this great country and its rich history, tradition and multiculturalism to the local public, but also to encourage further improvement of friendly relations between Serbia and Pakistan. In this sense, the most important areas of bilateral cooperation are trade, culture, sports and tourism.
