Europe Day traditionally marked in Stari Dvor

The President of Serbia congratulated everyone on Europe Day, reminding them that, on the same day, we were also marking Victory Day and thus remembering the huge sacrifices made in the Second World War.

Ambassador and Head of the Delegation of the European Union to Serbia, H.E. Sem Fabrizi, Belgrade Mayor and Deputy Mayor, Professor Zoran Radojičić, MD, and Goran Vesić respectively, hosted the reception marking Europe Day which is traditionally held in Stari Dvor every year. The guests included the President of the Republic of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, Prime Minister Ana Brnabić, numerous ministers and representatives of embassies, religious communities, the city of Belgrade and the state of Serbia.

The ceremony began with the anthems of the European Union and Serbia, after which Sem Fabrizi and Aleksandar Vučić addressed the guests.

The President of Serbia congratulated everyone on Europe Day, reminding them that, on the same day, we were also marking Victory Day and thus remembering the huge sacrifices made in the Second World War.

We consider Europe our home and that’s why we want to give it as much as we can by contributing to peace and stability through economic growth, regional cooperation, and ideas for a better life for us and our neighbours,” President Vučić said.

He also thanked everyone for the support they have been giving to Serbia and said that “Europe counts on Serbia and Serbia counts on Europe”.

Sem Fabrizi reminded of the achievements during the post-Second World War period and the Schuman Declaration, which promotes peace and solidarity, prosperity and security in Europe which have lasted for more than seven decades. He also referred to new challenges, new rules and constant action that is required of European countries, adding that COVID-19 was the latest stress test for Europe. Fabrizi also said that Europe demonstrated its capacities to react during the pandemic.

The EU is Serbia’s largest trade partner, the largest investor and donor. The EU is a source of jobs and opportunities, a partner for strategic investments in infrastructure, but also in education, skills and social development. Most importantly, the EU is a full-fledged partner in achieving your vision to be part of the European family,” Sem Fabrizi concluded.
