The Ninth Days of Slovenian Film Review (DSF) Will Be Held from December 7 to 10 at the Yugoslav Cinematheque

The main film program of the event will allow viewers to premiere some of the most attractive and award-winning feature and documentary film titles from recent Slovenian productions

The festival opens with the film “Jahači” (Riders) by director Dominik Mencej, which won numerous awards at the Slovenian Film Festival in Portorož in 2022, including the IRIDIUM for the best debut film. The ninth fashion show will be opened by one of the protagonists of this film, Nikola Kojo. On the second day of the program, the winner of this year’s festival in Portorž for the best feature film “Probudi me (Wake Me Up) by Marko Šantić, while the Belgrade audience will have the opportunity to see Janez Burger’s “Posmatranje” (Observation) on Saturday. Damjan Kozole’s “Pero”, which was shown at the prestigious festival in Rotterdam, and received special recognition from the “Brave Balkan” selection at the recently held Author’s Film Festival in Belgrade, will close the 9th DSF on Sunday, December 10.

This year, we also have a film intended for a younger audience, “Gajin svet 2” (Gaia’s World 2), a sequel to the popular film about the teenage girl Gaja. These films received awards for the best children’s film at the festivals in Motovun and Sarajevo, and in Slovenian cinema distribution, they recorded an unprecedented viewership.

As an introduction to the main program of the festival, DSF+ will be held on Tuesday, December 5 from 6 p.m. in the Small Hall of the Student Town Centre of Culture, during which short fiction, documentary and animated films of contemporary Slovenian production will be shown. The accompanying program of the DSF includes the now traditional Round Table, which will be held on Friday, December 8, starting at noon, also in the Yugoslav Cinematheque, and moderated by Dr. Ivan Kronja. The participants of the round table, guests of the festival – Rado Likon, this year’s winner of the Milke and Metoda Badjure award for life’s work in the field of photography at the Portorož festival, director of photography Ivan Zadro, as well as Radovan Čok, author of the documentary film “Žan”, will speak on the topic of Style and mannerism in film photography about the prominent cinematographer Ivan Marinček. This pioneer of Slovenian and Yugoslav cinematography, director of photography and editor, will have an exhibition at the 9th DSF. In addition to the Slovenian ones, Vladan Obradović, a member of the board of directors of the Association of Cinematographers of Serbia, film critic Ana Vučković Denčič, and others will participate in the round table.

We are proud to point out that the artistic director of the festival, Dragomir Zupanc, was this year crowned with the honorary title of Friend of Slovenian Film at the Slovenian Film Festival in Portorož, whose jury included Dr Ivana Kronja and Vladimir Šojat in the previous two years.

DSF is organised in cooperation with the Society of Slovenians “Sava” in Belgrade, the Embassy of the Republic of Slovenia, the Yugoslav Cinematheque, the Cinematheque of Slovenia and other institutions.

The festival is also held in Niš, Novi Sad, Smederevo, Pancevo, Kovina, Vršac and Bor cultural centres.
