Algerian Independence Day Marked

On the occasion of the 57th anniversary of the Independence of the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria in Belgrade, the ambassador of Algeria, H. E. Abdelhamid Chebchoub, made a solemn reception at his residence, marking the day when, on July 5, 1962, the Algerian Revolution fighters won the victory.

The anti-colonial struggle of the Algerian people – the Algerian War for Independence – is considered to be one of the greatest events in the history of the 20th century. This struggle has influenced the creation of many states of colonized Africa, and has reversed the course of African history. The reception was attended by Algerian diplomats, senior officers of the National National Army who visited Belgrade, members of the Algerian community, members of the Association of friends of Algiers, representatives of Serbian companies, who are present in Algeria, representatives of the media and numerous military interns who are in professional education in Serbia.
